Pisano Raffaele

Professor

Raffaele Pisano is a physicist and historian of science, Full Professor at the University of Lille and Head of the HOPAST research group at IEMN–CNRS (UMR 8520), France.

His research focuses on the history and foundations of physics and mathematics, with particular emphasis on the historical development of scientific concepts, the relationships between mathematical structures and physical theories, and the evolution of scientific reasoning. His work spans classical mechanics, thermodynamics, mathematical physics, and the emergence of modern science, exploring the contributions of major thinkers from Archimedes, Leonardo da Vinci and Galileo to Newton, Leibniz, Lagrange, Fourier, Carnot and Einstein.

His studies also address the historical and conceptual foundations of quantum mechanics and relativity, the development of scientific modelling, and the epistemological transformations of scientific knowledge. A further dimension of his research concerns the integration of the history and philosophy of science into higher education, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue between physics, mathematics, history and epistemology.
