Sir Roger Penrose is a British mathematician and mathematical physicist who has offered an original and exceptional vision of the laws of nature. He introduced innovative mathematical methods drawn from algebraic geometry and differential topology to derive, with remarkable clarity, the predictions of general relativity concerning cosmology.
He has received numerous prizes and distinctions, including the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work demonstrating that the formation of black holes is a robust prediction of general relativity, and the 1988 Wolf Prize, which he shared with Stephen Hawking for the Penrose–Hawking singularity theorem.
