Mikhail Leonidovich Gromov
Mikhail Leonidovich Gromov is a Franco-Russian mathematician renowned for his major contributions to various branches of geometry, particularly metric geometry and geometric group theory ā most notably for his work on hyperbolic groups. He founded symplectic topology by introducing the theory of pseudoholomorphic curves. He also formulated the h-principleĀ for partial differential equations.
In 1981, Mikhail Gromov received the Oswald Veblen Prize, followed by the Ćlie Cartan Prize in 1984. He was later awarded the Wolf Prize in 1993, the Kyoto Prize in 2002, and the Abel Prize in 2009 for his groundbreaking contributions to geometry.
